Target location information dialog box

This topic describes the purpose of the Target location information dialog box and all the settings and buttons on it.

The Target location information dialog box is opened from both the ESPA analysis center screen and the Sentinel screen. It allows you to:

  • view and edit a target location's details. It is opened by clicking the target location to open it's pop-up, then clicking the hyperlink in the pop-up.

  • create new target locations by clicking a location on the map. This dialog box is opened by clicking an area on the map whilst the map is in the add locations mode. The add locations mode is activated on the:

    • WNF analysis center and Sentinel screens by ensuring is set to .

    • ESPA analysis center screen by clicking then .

    You can also add target locations using the Locations of interest screen (Case management).

    Target locations are geographic points of interests that are primarily used for investigating case data visually to determine the proximity of the locations to the sectors used during phone calls. They may also be useful for drive planning. For example, a target location may be:

    • One or more crime scenes.
    • One or more place of interest related to the crime or a phone user, for example the location of a phone user's home and locations a phone user is known to frequent.

    The location displays on the map along with a pop-up containing the details you enter in Description and the location can also be used in a report.

    This dialog box also allows you to enter a start and end time associated with the target location. This information is then used on the ESPA analysis center screen's Timeline tab and as a time reference if you generate a report.

    For reports you can select which of these locations you want included in your report. For an advanced analysis report, the generated report contains street maps showing each selected target location individually, for further information refer to Using target location information in advanced analysis reports.

    Locations are also used in analyses and for live location monitoring.

    NOTE: You can only create and edit target locations if you are the case creator, a case assignee or an administrator, otherwise the settings on this screen are read-only.

If you require information on adding, editing or deleting target locations refer to Managing locations.

This setting is mandatory. Enter a name for the target location, for example Crime Scene or Suspect's main residence. This information is displayed as a pop-up on the map on the ESPA analysis center and the Sentinel screens.

This setting is mandatory. Select the type of target.

The Notes type is used to create a note on the map for use in the ESPA analysis center's advanced analysis reports. You can click on the map to easily define the location you want to anchor your note to. If you want to move your note after adding it you must change the locations latitude and longitude settings.

On the ESPA analysis center screen, if a target location is created from a polygon, line or arrow on then the location type cannot be changed from its default of either Polygon or Drawing.

If the location you are adding is one of an IP address that you can then use on the Sentinel screen for live social media traffic or in Smart Track alerts then select IP location, then enter the address in IP address.

Click to manage the types of locations that are available. OSS-ESPA provides specific location types but you can add your own if required. For further information refer to the Edit target location types dialog box.

Select only if you want to customize how the location icon marker is displayed in the ESPA analysis center screen, Sentinel screen and the reports.

  • select a color, then in Marker label enter the characters to create a colored icon with two characters.
  • "Custom", then click Icons to select an alternative icon or to upload your own.

The default icons are shown in the following graphic.

This setting is only applicable if Marker icon is set to one of the color options. Enter up to two characters to customize how the target location icon marker is displayed in the ESPA analysis center screen, Sentinel screen, and the reports.

Displays the latitude of the location you selected on the map. Both the latitude and longitude must remain entered if you want the target location to display on the map on the ESPA analysis center screen, Sentinel screen or if you want the location included in a report.

Displays the longitude of the location you selected on the map. Both the latitude and longitude must remain entered if you want the target location to display on the map on the ESPA analysis center screen, Sentinel screen or if you want the location included in a report.

Enter the address details of the target location.

Alternatively click Find location and use the Find location dialog box which automatically determines the possible addresses based on the latitude and longitude details.

Click to open the Find location dialog box which allows you to automatically complete the address details based on the selected latitude and longitude of the location you clicked on the map.

Enter the contact information of the owner of the target location.

Enter the event start date and time for the location. For example if it is a crime scene you can enter the date and time the crime started. If you do not select a time a default time of 12:00 am is used. You can use the date and time pickers to enter the details, or you can enter them manually. If you enter them manually note that the date format used is month/day/year. The date and time are required for multiple purposes:

  • They are used to include the location on the Timeline tab of the ESPA analysis center screen.
  • They are used in advanced reports when you select Add selected calls as description, the call description in the report then displays the call time in relation to the event start date and time. They are also displayed in the report if you select Add selected target locations.

Enter the event end date and time for the location. For example if it is a meeting area that you know was used over a certain period you can enter the date and time the meeting ended. If you do not select a time a default time of 12:00 am is used. You can use the date and time pickers to enter the details, or you can enter them manually. If you enter them manually note that the date format used is month/day/year. The date and time are required for multiple purposes:

  • They are used to include the location on the Timeline tab of the ESPA analysis center screen.
  • They are used in advanced reports when you select Add selected calls as description, the call description in the report then displays the call time in relation to the event end date and time. They are also displayed in the report if you select Add selected target locations.

Enter a radius for the location buffer which is used in:

  • the Person's device at location analysis that is displayed on the Call analyses tab. The location used in the analysis includes the radius around the latitude/longitude which is specified by this location buffer.
  • advanced analysis reports to include in the call description, the details for the call in relation to any target locations if the call was within the location's Location buffer setting.
  • live call location monitoring to define the location. The location used in live location monitoring includes the radius around the latitude/longitude which is specified by this location buffer. If you specify a location buffer here then any value set using Location buffer on the Add/Edit Smart Track alerts & notifications screen is ignored.

Note, this setting is not available if the Type of target is Polygon.

This setting is only applicable if Type of target is set to IP location.

This setting allows you to add the IP addresses of the location. This is useful if you are monitoring a PRTT of a person's social media account as it allows you to define the location of an IP address so that the location of any social media traffic using the IP address is saved as a geolocation record and the device's location is then automatically displayed on for example the Sentinel screen. You can also select to include the IP address's location in the geofence, reverse geofence, multi-phone proximity and accuracy Smart Track alerts.

You can enter a single IP address, or multiple IP addresses either in a range or in a comma-separated list. For example the following formats are all supported:

Enter a description of the target location. This information is displayed as a pop-up on the map on the ESPA analysis center screen and the Sentinel screen along with the details you enter in Name.

If you select a location on the map and then choose to view the location details on this dialog box then this displays any hyperlinks associated with the target location which have been added on the Pictures tab on the Add/Edit location screen and the Manage files screen. Click the link to open it on a new browser tab.

If you select a location on the map and then choose to view the location details on this dialog box then this displays any images associated with the target location which have been added onthe Pictures tab on the Add/Edit location screen and the Manage files screen. Click the file name to view the image.

Click to close the dialog box without applying any changes you may have made.

Click to apply any changes you have made. The dialog box closes automatically.
